Minion in Elder Scrolls Online

Minion is a tool to manage add ons in various PC games, especially Elder Scrolls Online.  ESO University has information on how to install it and fix issues.

Be warned.  If you downloaded ESO from Steam, that will add more issues to any add on or add on manager like Minion.

Here is the Minion website to download.  It doesn't work on anything but PCs, however.

Character Animations for Elder Scrolls Online

Elder Scrolls Online has character commands that allow your character to express what are called emotes.  You activate these through slash commands on the PC although some of these are available only through Crown Store or game purchases and some are quest rewards.  On PS4 and XboxOne, you use the emotes by entering the chat window or by slotting them via the quickslot window.

The Idle Animations addon for Elder Scrolls Online can also animate your character in various ways during downtime.  The second link below shows how it works.  Basically you choose a profile from a drop down menu.  Depending on the personality you choose, your character will do certain actions, complete with sound effects, when the character is idle.  You can set how long before your character starts an animation and how long it lasts, etc.  You also can set Event Animations so your character does an animation when you level up, get a champion point, etc.  The addon can be turned on or off, so if you don't want it active, you don't have to delete it entirely.

WOW Classic: Reducing PvP Ganking Through Spy

The Solo MMO Player got a little tired of all the rogues hiding in questing areas waiting to backstab folks who are fighting an NPC or attacking folks on the transport.  He remembered using Spy Classic which reads and organizes the combat logs when he first played WOW and searched it out again.  It is excellent when it comes to figuring out what is going on.  It opens up all sorts of options and levels the playing field by giving players all sorts of information about other players in an area. The use of Spy has now spread all over his realm.   Recently updated.

WOW Classic: Why Mana Isn't Regenerating

The Solo MMO Player is getting lots of folks asking him why their mana isn't regenerating in PvP.  This is due to the five second rule (often abbreviated 5SR).  This is the most concise explanation I've found.
http://wow.allakhazam.com/wiki/Five_Second_Rule_(WoW)

Basically, if you cast a spell (or things like hunter shots) that uses mana, you will lose the mana the spell cost and none will regenerate for five seconds.  If you cast two spells that use mana in a row, you will lose the mana for both and the timer that started to count 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 after the first spell was cast will be reset to 1 again when you cast the second spell.  This delays the building back up of your mana.

You need to figure out how to space the mana-eating spells so that you don't delay the return of mana unnecessarily.  This article has some tips to help you.  Read the Comments for more help and clarification.  This article is from 2007 so it likely will be helpful for Classic WOW players.
https://www.wowhead.com/forums&topic=2081

If you are interested, there is an add-on to help you track mana. It is called Five Second Rule.  The Solo MMO Player does not use this so I don't know how well it works.

WOW Classic: Choosing Characters and Addons

If you are playing Classic World of Warcraft this week, roll a caster.  Melee players will have trouble with some quests.   Hunters will start out great but then begin having trouble as they level.  The original game didn't balance characters well, so some are weak and some are strong.  Word to the wise from the Solo MMO Player….

For help, Warcraft Tavern has a lot of class-specific material.  No idea how good it is.  The Solo MMO Player is relying on his memory of playing the classic version of the game.
https://www.warcrafttavern.com/guides/type/classes/

This forum has help for new players.  Again, no idea how helpful it will be for Classic WOW.
https://wow-noobs.livejournal.com

Hunters have to level their pets and level their weapons.  Just because your pet has an ability, doesn't mean you can use it.  You have to train the pet to do these things.  Pet trainers are next to the hunter trainers but not every town has a pet trainer.

When it comes to addons, Bartender doesn't work very well.  Never has.  Probably never will.  (The Solo MMO Player says you have to be drunk to even attempt to get it up and running.)  Dominos is much simpler to use.  Dominos Classic is specific for the Classic version of WOW.

Rift: The NkRebuff Addon

NkRebuff is a Rift addon to manage buffs.  The only documentation I found was this wiki.
http://wiki.riftui.com/NkRebuff

I also found this explanation of why some buffs don't show up.  Scroll to the bottom of the page and read the last posting.

Rift Addons

Rift brought addons to the game last summer.  After some problems in November when addons had to be disabled, they apparently work again.  There are 83 addons currently at Curse.

DrDamage (Addons)

I should subtitle this "Analyze Your Abilities Easily in Your Spare Time."  That's what this addon does--it analyzes your abilities in a situational manner.  Note that there is some setup involved.

Programming Addons for Cataclysm (Patch 4.0)

Blacksen talks about how Blizzard has changed its UI system in several major ways as of Patch 4.0, and how this effects addon developers, using his own Loot Council Lite as an example.  It's a technical article instead of a general interest one, but since I rarely see addon writers talking about their craft, I wanted to add a link here for those who might be interested in a glimpse of how such things work.

Nameplates and Cooldown Monitors

No Stock UI has found two new addons to help raiders.  One is a nameplate addon for PvP called Docs Nameplates.
http://www.nostockui.com/2010/11/docs-nameplates/

The other is called Flump.  It keeps track of when any player activates a raid cooldown, a portal or drops a feast, and also when the activated ability wears off.

The Greedy Goblin Invents the Wintergrasp Battleground-Kick Addon

Blessings of Kings talks about the Greedy Goblin's latest idea, an addon that kicks folks from Battlegrounds if they aren't contributing.  This works something like the way the raid-kick feature works in dungeon finder and as far as I know, it is for Wintergrasp only.

Patch 4.0.1 Bugs and Problems

There are some real problems with Patch 4.0.1.  The alchemy gem transmute recipes have disappeared so that leveling Alchemists can't get them, and Blizzard is pretending this isn't happening.  BBB, Blizzard has more important things to worry about right now--they just blew up their game in a Bet-the-Company move.
http://thebigbearbutt.com/2010/10/16/alchemy-gem-transmute-recipes-gone-in-4-0-1/

The Major League Gaming Pro Circuit is having their tournament this weekend.  It may be the last as their client won't work with Patch 4.0.1 so this PvP is under the old system.
http://wow.joystiq.com/2010/10/16/mlg-dc-starts-tonight-for-wow/

Blizzard has deployed a hot fix to the Violet Proto Drake/Master Riding problem.
http://www.wowhead.com/blog=171256

Arcane mage Prime glyphs has been mislabeled as major glyphs and cannot be placed in Prime slots. This may be the case for fire and frost configs also, but the Solo MMO Player has not checked this.   No word on when this will be fixed.

The Addon Developer Kit no longer automatically extracts code with Patch 4.0.1.  You have to go to a new developer's site to download this.

Warlocks have missing minions and demons, and the ones they have are renamed for them.  This is supposed to be fixed next maintenance day if it hasn't been already.

There is mixed reaction to Patch 4.0.1's nerfing of Auction House addons.  Blacksen thinks this will keep the amateur sellers away and consolidate power in the hands of professional goblins.

WOW Insider has a list of "current" bugs but it does not look updated to me.

So I looked at Blizzard Customer Service's Twitter feed and found a link to what they say is the current bug list.

Welcome to Chaos

By now Patch 4.0.1 is in full swing.  Everyone's talents are trashed and they are scrambling to fix their glyphs and gems.  The Auction House and normal functions of one's UI are broken or missing.  There are problems accessing one's bank account.  Many addons don't work.  There are bugs in the raids.  (The Solo MMO Player was stuck in Halls of Reflection for hours last night, unable to exit or switch to another character.)  Most of the body of information that has been accumulated online to help players is outdated, including most of what is on this site.  I've also heard that a great many guilds are telling certain classes not to raid because they've been nerfed.  There was so much chaos earlier in the week that the trolls weren't even on the chat line.  Currently there is a constant background clicking going on in-game as players switch this and that.

The worst part is that this mess is just Blizzard's way of having a world-wide beta paid for by the players.  I expect they are watching all the problems and bugs and making a list of those they want to fix before Cataclysm arrives.  Cynical?  No, this is just how Blizzard treats their customers.  All this is for their convenience, not yours.

It's not a happy time.  When you think that you are going to be playing in a Patch 3.3.5 world with Patch 4.0.1 characters until after December 7--if you buy Cataclysm--and forever if you don't, well, this is a Bet the Company move on Blizzard's part.

Do you really want to continue to play this game?
