Guild Wars 2: Traits and How They Work

Traits are explained on the official wiki.  Once you are level 11, you can buy a manual that unlocks the ability to spend trait points.  As you level, a new trait point is achieved.  You will have to buy a new manual to unlock spending trait points again at level 40 and 60.  There are 70 trait points available.  More details and trait lines listed by profession here.

Guild Wars 2: Trainer Locations

Trainers are difficult to find in GW2.  Here's where profession and commander trainers can be found:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Trainer

Crafting trainers are called Master Craftsmen.  They are listed by craft and then location here.  Generally once you find one crafting trainer, the others in that location will be nearby.  Remember, you have to choose "Please teach me" from the dialogues to be taught the craft.  It isn't enough just to find the trainer for the craft you want to learn.

Crafting in Guild Wars 2 UPDATED

There are eight crafting professions in Guild Wars 2 (and 400 skills levels!).  You can learn all the crafting professions, but can only have two disciplines active on a character at one time.  You can gather materials for crafting by purchasing items, looting defeated foes' bodies, gathering certain raw materials, and salvaging materials after destroying items using a salvage kit.  All this is covered in the GW2 wiki.  Yes, it's complicated.  This is the very best guide I've found.
http://gaiscioch.com/tavern/guildwars_crafting/post_35198.html

Here is what the official wiki says about crafting.  The links are very useful for research.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Crafting

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Crafting_material

This summarizes crafting and has explanations of how professions work crafting items.

A more intermediate crafting video with an emphasis on gathering and storage. (based on the beta)

Cooking is a little different so here's a video that covers just cooking.  (based on the beta)

Psynister has analyzed the gem store. You can read all about it and see the organizational charts here.  Thanks, Psyn!

He's also done a review of the game.
http://psynister.wordpress.com/2012/08/28/guild-wars-2-review-take-2/

UPDATE:  Recipes are color coded in the production tab of your crafting UI.  I am quoting the Production section in the link below as follows:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Crafting

"The production tab shows all available recipes. The color of a recipe's name indicates how close the recipe is to your current discipline level. The colors are the same as for item quality, progressing from gold for recipes near your current level to green to dark blue to light blue to white to gray for recipes that no longer grant any crafting experience.
Red recipes appear when you are within five levels of the next 25-level interval, at which point they will automatically unlock.
The number after the recipe name indicates how many items you can craft using that recipe, based on the contents your inventory and collections."

Rift: Guides to the Crafting and Gathering Professions

There are two types of professions in Rift:  crafting professions and gathering professions.  Here is a general guide to them all with help leveling the professions.  First up, gathering (butchery, foraging and mining).
http://www.riftlevelingguide.com/game/professions/gathering/

Now the crafting guide (apothecary, armorsmithing, artificing, outfitting, runecrafting, and weaponsmithing.
http://www.riftlevelingguide.com/game/professions/crafting/

UPDATE:  Rift Crafter has a website that will cover all the crafts.  It's just now getting started so there's not a lot there yet but the home page talks about the fixes Patch 1.1 will bring to the game.
http://www.riftcrafter.com/tradeskills/

If you want more details about the various crafting and gathering professions, check this series of articles out.  Note part three goes over the dailies, the UI, etc.

From the Favorite Links, don't forget what Telarapedia says about professions (including the highly important chart that shows which gathering and crafting professions compliment each other).

Here are some foraging and mining maps to help you locate items.
http://rift.incgamers.com/foraging-and-mining-maps/

http://rift.incgamers.com/scarlet-gorge-gathering-maps/

The Solo MMO Player has hit the wall leveling in two foraging professions. We read in the forums to head to another zone looking for non-gray items and he discovered that buying some items to craft in combination with his foraged items broke the log jam and enabled him to level a bit higher.  If you are stuck leveling a profession, try doing either or both of these things.
http://forums.riftgame.com/archive/index.php/t-98895.html?s=25b09da632721b48ed9e906567ba7c8b

UPDATE:  I've found three guides (foraging, butchering and mining) that list some items that go gray at various levels.  This may be helpful with the wall crafters and gathers are hitting.

Rift Butchery (Crafting Professions)

One of the professions in Rift is butchery.  Here is everything you ever wanted to know about butchery, including maps that show locations of trainers.
http://rift.incgamers.com/guides/Butchery

Telarapedia has a list of dropped and trainable recipes for butchery.
http://telarapedia.com/wiki/Butchery

Zam's Rift wiki has a Defiant butchering guide as well as a list of butchery quests plus other information as above.

Can't find heavy leather?  It sounds as if one needs to move to a new area and find higher level skinable mobs.
http://forums.riftgame.com/archive/index.php/t-53292.html?s=a21996d169ec5bd63429d657746ff25c

The online Rift Manual (page 39) says, "To gather, you must find a source.  Sources are marked on your Minimap when.you.have your Track Ability active, and they shine and sparkle when you’re close enough to see them.  Stand by the source and right-click on it.  After a few seconds, a Loot window opens, with one or more items to gather." The gathering skills include butchery, foraging and mining.

Rift: Gathering and Crafting Professions Help

Need information about the professions?  There are three gathering professions (butchery, foraging and mining) and six crafting professions (apothacary, armorsmithing, artificing, outfitting, runecrafting and weaponsmitthing).  A character can choose up to three professions.  Good explanations of all the professions are found here.
http://telarapedia.com/wiki/Profession

However, I think this explanation is clearer and covers all the crafting and gathering professions in a more comprehensive manner.  It also shows the various crafting windows you'll use.

All about runecrafting, from trainers to upgrading components, runebreaking and transforming components.

GW Professions, Attributes and Skills (Builds)

Each Guild Wars player can have up to four characters ("heros") per account.  Each character can choose from one of six professions (Elementalist, Mesmer, Monk, Necromancer, Ranger, and Warrior) as their primary profession and then choose a secondary profession from the same list.  This link describes the main and secondary professions available.  The profession a player chooses effects their appearance and armor.
http://eu.guildwars.com/gameplay/category/listing/the_professions/

Each profession has up to five attributes. Some attributes are only available to a primary profession and it looks like each character can choose a maximum of eight attributes.  You can read more about attributes here.
http://eu.guildwars.com/gameplay/article/attributes/

Choosing attributes gives a character skills that belong to that character's chosen attribute.  As you level, you get more attribute points which improve your skills.  Here is a bit more about skills.
http://eu.guildwars.com/gameplay/category/listing/skills/

Attributes can be adjusted at any town.  The game seems to encourage players to change their attributes to match the situation their characters are in.  These various builds are much discussed in the game.  I am going to start assembling various builds for the different professions as I find them.  These will be placed in the various profession tabs under the header.
