Styx: Blades of Greed Guide

I'm a sucker for stealth games, so I had to add a link to this guide to Styx:  Blades of Greed.  I don't know how good the game is and haven't play any of the earlier games in this series, but here is the info for my fellow sneaks.

Here's a bit about the game.

Elder Scrolls Online: Tips for Tanks

Feel free to ignore all these tips from the Solo MMO Player, but be warned--if you do, you are going to fail as a tank and you are going to be much mocked to boot.

Slow Down - Instances are not a race.  If a tank outruns everyone else, the ads will be drawn to the tank and the group will fail because all the ads will be concentrated around the Boss, protecting and healing the Boss, and it will be impossible to take the Boss down.  Don't rush and allow many ads to be killed as the group goes through the instance.

Don't Panic - Just concentrate on what your job regardless of all going on around you.

Don't Stop to Look at the Map - The in-game map isn't that helpful.  It pays to view videos of the instance ahead of time so you have a general idea of where to go and what the NPC mechanics are.  Making everyone stand around while you try to figure out where you are and where you should be is going to annoy the other players without buying you anything.  Prepare ahead of time.

Kill the Ads - You don't have to kill each and every ad but you have to get as many as possible so they aren't all bunched up around the Boss at the end, protecting and healing the Boss.  See Slow Down and the link at the end for help in tanking to prioritize the NPCs that must be killed.

Running in Circles Is a Bad Idea - Characters in ESO must target ads and bosses before they can get off a shot.  If the tank is running all over, targeting is impossible and shots will be wasted.  Then the group has to wait for the cool down period to be over while the ads are attacking them.  Everyone dies.  (That's not the point of the instance, in case you didn't know.)  Zigzaging from side to side is also a bad idea for the same reason.  The Solo MMO Player has no idea why so many tanks run in circles these days but it does nothing whatsoever to get through the instance. See Slow Down.

Whining Gets You Nowhere - Complaining that you've run an instance four times and not gotten the drop you wanted will get you No Sympathy Whatsoever from experienced players who've run WOW instances forty or fifty times (or even sixty times--The Solo MMO player's record) before a rare item dropped, especially if you failed to trigger the quest at the beginning of the instance that would guarantee the drop once you finish the instance. Don't bother asking if someone has the rare item they'll give you.  It's not your birthday, bro, and the other group members don't care about your little problems.  Spend all your energy learning to tank. This website looks helpful.  Note the links at the end.

Becoming a Vampire in Elder Scrolls Online

If you are interested in becoming a vampire in Elder Scrolls Online, here is the short version of how to do this.
https://www.gameskinny.com/trdgv/elder-scrolls-online-guide-how-to-become-a-vampire

Elder Scrolls Online Guide has a much more detailed explanation, including three maps of locations where you might find a Bloodfiend NPC to bite you if you don't want to pay 12K gold to have a player bite you.  (yuck)  It also tells you how to easily cure vampirism.

WOW Classic: Hunters and Their Pets

Here are some links with pet info.  Most appear to be older.  If you are a beginner doing the quests to get pets, use Stay to get rid of one pet or get out of aggro range of the first pet so you can tame a second.  Or get it killed.  (There doesn't seem to be a Dismiss key early on.)
https://classic.wowhead.com/spell=2641/dismiss-pet

Remember, your pet won't be able to do anything until you find a pet trainer (will be next to the hunter trainer but not all locations have pet trainers).

Use your pet to draw aggro away from you.  You can tell it to go to certain places.  Send it a slight distance away so the monster will attack it instead of you.  You can resurrect it over and over once you have a pet tamed.

You have to adapt your play style to the pet in Classic WOW.  Pets are not alike in everything but  their appearance in the original vanilla WOW.  So look at these links and pick the best pet for how you play.  Here's information about various pets and their builds.

Dungeons in Guild Wars 2

There are nine dungeons currently in GW2 (and some that are available during various holiday events only).  You have to be a certain minimal level to enter each.  Each dungeon has a story mode and an explorable mode which you can do after completing the story mode and advancing you level.  It looks like you run dungeons in groups.  Here's more information but once you hit level 25, the game will send you a letter explaining how you will be notified about dungeons that are available to you.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dungeon

This guide to dungeons in Guild Wars 2 has a list of eight of the nine (but the guides are finished for only half of them).  There's a map of their locations, but it isn't too clear.

The same website also has a guide to farming dungeons for tokens, which you trade to the dungeon's vendors.

Money Money Money (Guild Wars 2)

Guild Wars 2 has all kinds of currency:  Coins (bronze, silver and gold), Gems, Glory, Influence, Karma, Skill Points and Supply.   Here's a nice video about all the currencies, how each is used and how to get them.

Here's a written guide to the currencies.  It looks to be somewhat incomplete to me.

Crafting in Guild Wars 2 UPDATED

There are eight crafting professions in Guild Wars 2 (and 400 skills levels!).  You can learn all the crafting professions, but can only have two disciplines active on a character at one time.  You can gather materials for crafting by purchasing items, looting defeated foes' bodies, gathering certain raw materials, and salvaging materials after destroying items using a salvage kit.  All this is covered in the GW2 wiki.  Yes, it's complicated.  This is the very best guide I've found.
http://gaiscioch.com/tavern/guildwars_crafting/post_35198.html

Here is what the official wiki says about crafting.  The links are very useful for research.

This summarizes crafting and has explanations of how professions work crafting items.

Psynister has analyzed the gem store. You can read all about it and see the organizational charts here.  Thanks, Psyn!

He's also done a review of the game.
http://psynister.wordpress.com/2012/08/28/guild-wars-2-review-take-2/

UPDATE:  Recipes are color coded in the production tab of your crafting UI.  I am quoting the Production section in the link below as follows:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Crafting

"The production tab shows all available recipes. The color of a recipe's name indicates how close the recipe is to your current discipline level. The colors are the same as for item quality, progressing from gold for recipes near your current level to green to dark blue to light blue to white to gray for recipes that no longer grant any crafting experience.
Red recipes appear when you are within five levels of the next 25-level interval, at which point they will automatically unlock.
The number after the recipe name indicates how many items you can craft using that recipe, based on the contents your inventory and collections."

Rift: Gearing Guides

Rift's theory crafting seems to be very very complex, with variables such as synergy crystals, builds, vendor locations and goods, gear available from factions, and various types of currencies and which gear they buy being mixed in unpredictable ways.  I don't see resources that help one, either, so I'm going to try to find good gear guides in the hopes that this helps at least those who happen to have a similar build.  Here they are, in the order in which I found them--
