Elder Scrolls Online Game Pad Problems

After this year's updates, the Solo MMO Player has found his Logitech Gamepad is acting up.  This is apparently an issue with a lot of players who use controllers, too.

Reddit has some help.  Thorolhugil says, "Make sure the in-game setting under settings -> gameplay for gamepad mode is set to auto and it should auto detect and switch. Sometimes it's a little glitchy though....
Also! Check the gamepad settings under the game's settings in the steam launcher, and check what checkboxes are enabled in the gamepad settings of steam in general."

Apparently auto gamepad mode sometimes randomly unchecks, so look at your gamepad mode in both the game and the Steam launcher.

MaggyTwoFlagons reminds us, "Make sure Accessibility Mode is on in ESO settings menu. That tripped me up once, iirc."  ESO confirms "You cannot use a controller before logging into a character unless you enable Accessibility Mode at launch. If you have already disabled this setting, you will have to enable it from the Settings menu."

Brandywjn adds, "Two things to check would be: your controller settings in Steam (and does the controller work for other games), and if you have a good pre-made controller map selected (or make your own).
Also, controller won't work on character selection screen. Need a mouse for that. Maybe confirm if controller works after loading in to a character?"

However, Wallofcans claims the controller will work on the character selection screen. "That's incorrect, and easily missed. There's a setting that you can toggle for kb [keyboard] or gamepad title screen. You don't need a mouse+kb at all for the character select screen. It took me a while to find it."  Unfortunately Wallofcans doesn't say where this setting is located.

Here is the entire discussion from Reddit.

Rift: Macros and Rotations (with G15 Info)

While looking for spell rotation recommendations I found this note from Behindya about writing macros for a character's spells.  I wanted to capture it here for those who are writing macros for their rotations.

"I'm with the OP on this one. I really enjoy writing Macros, it's like a mini game for me. I find it almost impossible to move and hit the number keys in the heat of battle; I much prefer to come up with a solid rotation and put it in a macro.

At the moment, instant cast abilities can't be used in a macro unless they are at the end (because they will always pop and thus end the macro). Instead of a cast sequence, what I'd like to see is this kind of syntax:

cast

RecastWaitTime = (optional) Number of seconds to wait before re-casting.

A cast sequence has limitations, especially when trying to efficiently keep DOT's on a target or trying to pop something that uses combo points of some sort. This syntax is simple and provides flexibility to come up with some creative macros. Also, nerds like me will find it fun."

I also found this answer to a request for helping setting up Rift rotations on a G15 game pad.

Addons for the Mouse Addict

If you prefer to navigate via your mouse instead of keyboard, you may be interested in Healium.  This addon for healers sets up heals so they can be clicked on to activate.  There's a video of it in action embedded in this article.  Note that Clique can also be set up to be activated by mouse clicks.  Speedy Actions is also spotlighted as it helps make mouse users faster.  The article also mentions the Logitech G-15 keyboard and the G-13 keypad, which are particularly useful for disabled players.

G13 Video Review and Drivers

A video review of the game pad. The review he mentions on his blog is a simple rave review without details. The Solo MMO Player says the video just shows the use of the simple pre-programmed commands that come packaged with the device. Still, if you like to watch things in action, this is useful.

UPDATE:  G13s are no longer available new, just through places like eBay and Amazon at high prices.  If you are lucky enough to have one or buy one, here is a good source of information on how to set it up and program it.
