Elder Scrolls Games

With the Elder Scrolls Blades about to be shut down, the only mobile Elder Scrolls game available is Elder Scrolls Castles, which is a sort of simulation apparently.  I've not played it.

The main Bethesda games in the Elder Scrolls universe are Elder Scrolls Online, Skyrim and Oblivion.  Only Elder Scrolls Online is recent but all are playable on the PC, PS4 and PS5 and the xBoxSeries X/S or the xBox One.  The Solo MMO's favorite by far is Oblivion.  If you enjoy roaming the countryside and the lore, this is the game for you.  (But if you love lore, seek out Morrowind.  The graphics are clunky but the story is wow.)

Skyrim DLC Content and Release Dates UPDATED

Skyrim has three sets of downloadable content available now but not everything is released on every platform. The first set of DLC is called Dawnguard (it is all about vampires--you can either play as one or be one of the Dawnguard whose job is to kill vamps).  It didn't get great reviews.  Most folks thought $20 was a high price for not much content.  This is available for the PC and xBox 360.  (Sorry, PS3 owners.)

The second piece of downloadable content is called Hearthfire and is also available only on the xBox 360 and PC.  (Sorry again, PS3 owners!)  It allows you to "build" a house in a limited way and adopt an orphan plus acquire a House Steward.  Here's the review and trailer.  I haven't found the official pricing for this yet but it might be around $5.

Dragonborn is getting good word-of-mouth reviews so far, but it is available for xBox 360 players only as of December 4, 2012.  It won't be available on PCs or PS3 until "early 2013." Here's the trailer.  I don't have pricing for this yet.

Skyrim "Creation Kit" and Bug Fixes Coming February 2012

Sometime next month Bethesda will release their Creation Kit to totally open up the PC version of the game to modders.  They also will allow mods to be uploaded to Steam where they can be rated and downloaded by other PC players.

Skyrim: Dragon Armor versus Daedric Armor

Which armor is best?  The stats are better on Daedric armor but dragon armor is made from more easily found items and it is also lighter in weight.

Skyrim: Crafting Daedric Armor

Skyrim Fixes (PC)

Here's a site with help for Skyrim problems on PCs.  I can't guarantee these fixes will work but there are so many problems with Skyrim's implementation on Steam, I'm posting it.

Skyrim has a lot of cache problems.  However Betheseda writes to the Steam cache files often corrupts the cache files.  Once the cache files are corrupted in Steam, it's a fragile system and a lot of problems occur.  As long as you can rebuild the cache file, it'll be ok.

Skyrim Patch 1.3 Won't Launch

The Solo MMO Player couldn't get Skyrim to launch after Patch 1.3 hit today.  He had to clear out his Steam cache as described here to get it to launch on his PC.

Skyrim: Can Shadowmere Be Killed?

Shadowmere has more health than other horses in Skyrim and can recover health fairly quickly, but can be killed.  (The Solo MMO Player says he's not a jumper.) Apparently there is console code for the PC version of the game to resurrect the horse but the Elder Scrolls wiki says that the horse will respawn in the death location 15-20 days later automatically.

Skyrim: Which Side Are You On, Boys?

Early in the game you are asked to pick sides in the civil war.  Will you choose the Stormcloaks or the Imperial Army?  I can't find information about whether the choice you make closes off quest lines, but I did find this explanation of the war and what happens when you choose.
