If blizzard's built in Equipment Manager is driving you nuts, you might want to consider Outfitter (updated to Patch 3.2--we are at Patch 3.2.2 now).

Outfitter was used by a great many folks until Blizzard decided to create Equipment Manager. Outfitter's creator pulled it, then decided to keep it going.

Apparently you must disable Equipment Manger to use Outfitter. Do research on this before following the instructions, however. This is old information!
