Yesterday's article about thefts from a guild bank got me curious about how they work. The Blizzard WOW site doesn't have much information but I did find these two helpful articles elsewhere. They are not recent but hopefully there haven't been many changes to how guild banks work. The first article is the most complete. The others talk about things such as managing the tabs.
