Elder Scrolls Games

With the Elder Scrolls Blades about to be shut down, the only mobile Elder Scrolls game available is Elder Scrolls Castles, which is a sort of simulation apparently.  I've not played it.

The main Bethesda games in the Elder Scrolls universe are Elder Scrolls Online, Skyrim and Oblivion.  Only Elder Scrolls Online is recent but all are playable on the PC, PS4 and PS5 and the xBoxSeries X/S or the xBox One.  The Solo MMO's favorite by far is Oblivion.  If you enjoy roaming the countryside and the lore, this is the game for you.  (But if you love lore, seek out Morrowind.  The graphics are clunky but the story is wow.)

Elder Scrolls Blades To Shut Down June 30, 2026

I got an in-game notice this morning from Bethesda that they are shutting down the Elder Scrolls Blades servers on June 20, 2026.  The game won't be playable on mobile platforms or Switch after that.  To compensate players, Bethesda is giving everyone 50K gems and making all items cost 1 gem or 1 sigil.

Apparently this has been known for a few days as notice was posted to the Nintindo shop.

I understand the Elder Scrolls Blades website is already gone and the downloads from the mobile sites have been removed.  I will leave all my info about the game here so players at least can look up bugs and their fixes here.

So go finish that dungeon, buy that armor or decorative statue, and take lots of screenshots.  I'm going to open the game, find my Nirnroot plant and listen to it chime each day until July 1.

Crimson Desert Review UPDATED

If you like solo adventuring in a wide world, Crimson Desert sounds good.  (If you get the Subscribe message when you click on the link, just click on No Thanks and you'll go straight to Crecente's Substack article.)

Check the reviews and the specs you'll need to play.  Like all new games, this thing only runs on the latest gear.  It's also buggy so I'd wait a while until updates fix the worst ones (no inventory space) before buying.

UPDATE:  IGN has info about changes the patches have brought but still is wary about this game.  Note the links to helpful hints at the bottom of the article.

Just How Many WOW Expansions Are there?

The Solo MMO Player just asked me how many expansions there have been to World of Warcraft?  I didn't know, but it looks like as of May 2025 there have been ten addons to the original game which we call Vanilla WOW:  The Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, Cataclysm, Mists of Pandaria, Warlords of Draenor, Legion, Battle for Azeroth, Shadowlands, Dragonflight, The War Within and Midnight.  Looks like at least one more is planned:  The Last Titan.

After all, the game is 21+ years old.  And we are still talking about it.

By the way, Microsoft bought WOW in October 2023.  The War Within and Midnight are the expansions released in the Microsoft era.

Warcraft Tavern Still Open

In this era of dead links to gaming information I've discovered Warcraft Tavern is still open and still serving information about World of Warcraft.  You'll find guides, a gear planner, enchantment list, even a server population listing.  If you are still playing WOW, it's worth a visit.
