Kingdom of Amalur Inventory System, Carry Weight, Storage Boxes, Houses

There's a bit of information on how things stack in your inventory in the link below. Note some vendors sell backpacks that allow you to carry more items. Apparently you can find them in most of the cities early in the game. I've previously posted about quests that give you a house for storage as a quest reward.

It is possible that once you have a house as the result of a quest and buy upgrades to the house, some increased inventory space is part of the upgrade to the house. I have no idea how/if this works, though. Here is a bit about the A Tangled Web side mission that unlocks a residence in Canneroc called Gossamar End, which is in Webwood somewhere. read both links. See the article here called How To Buy A House for more detailed information. Basically, you either get the key off the body of Barten or get it from him when you return to the town with him. Then buy the upgrades from the blacksmith Billus Aldeth (spelling?).

To put things in your new chest (there just seems to be one and the spider that is supposed to be in the house doesn't seem to be there, just webs), use the letter R to select items, then left click with the mouse button to put things in your chest one by one. There is a limit to the number of items that will fit. If you are wearing something, you have to remove it before putting it in the chest. Things are not organized when in the storage chest apparently. They don't seem to be organized alphabetically or by type anyway.

Redeeming the Kingdom of Amalur DLC

To redeem your DLC codes for in-game content, go to the xBox Live Marketplace or PS3 Network if you are playing a console version of the game. If you are playing the PC version, check for a URL listed with your code. Goto that site to redeem the code. Once it is redeemed for the PC, it may appear in either your Origins Game Library or be accessed within the game itself, depending on the game. For Kingdom of Amalur, the DLC is accessed within the game. You go to the site and enter the codes and nothing happens, but when you go into the game the Downloadable Content (DLC) items are in the special treasure chest.

Skyrim "Creation Kit" and Bug Fixes Coming February 2012

Skyrim Fixes (PC)

Skyrim has a lot of cache problems. However Betheseda writes to the Steam cache files often corrupts the cache files. Once the cache files are corrupted in Steam, it's a fragile system and a lot of problems occur. As long as you can rebuild the cache file, it'll be ok.

Skyrim: Can Shadowmere Be Killed?

Shadowmere has more health than other horses in Skyrim and can recover health fairly quickly, but can be killed. (The Solo MMO Player says he's not a jumper.) Apparently there is console code for the PC version of the game to resurrect the horse but the Elder Scrolls wiki says that the horse will respawn in the death location 15-20 days later automatically.

Skyrim: Breathing Underwater

First of all, there is no health bar underwater. Listen for the bubbles and get out of the water to breathe ASAP. One of the dragon priest masks (there are 9 of them) grants underwater breathing. Here are two videos on where to find them all.

Machienzo says, "This can only be done through the 'Command Mode'. By commanding your companion to 'Pick Up' stuff that you've left on the ground, you can tell them to pick up an unlimited number of items. It has to be through this way, otherwise they will end up being over-encumbered."

UPDATE: A video explaining how to use increase carry weight using the console commands in the PC version of the game. You access the console command using the tilde key ~ on your PC keyboard. The Solo MMO Player tested this and it works (for now).

Basically, enchanting's a three step process. Disenchant an already enchanted item at an altar of enchanting, destroying it in the process. Fill a soul gem (these vary in quality). Enchant the new item with the soul gem, or recharge a depleted enchanted item with the soul gem.

Skyrim: Installing Dragon Shouts (PC)

To collect dragon "shouts" you must first find the words on a wall. Then you have to kill a dragon and absorb its soul. Then install the dragon shout by selecting it and clicking R (PC only).

Extra hint: save immediately after killing a dragon. Especially in the early parts of the game, you often might be killed immediately after the dragon fight by attacking wild animals when your health is down.

Skyrim: Using Favorites and Hot Keys (PC Version)

To set up favorites in the PC version of Skyrim, go to the items/spells menu. Select whatever you want on Favorites and push F. When in game, push Q and the Favorites menu will appear. Select the item or items you want to hot key, then press a number from 1-8 to assign the Favorites item to the number.

(Pushing Q also changes point of view, but I'm not clear when this happens and when the Favorites menu opens.)

Rift: What the heck are Synergy Crystals?

Patch 1.3 has introduced a new slot for synergy crystals. So what the heck are synergy crystals? They are Rift's fix to the problem of armor sets. Normally in MMOs there are sets of armor that are visually related in some way which give bonuses to the classes. In other words, your helmet and leggings and shield and such are all the same color, have the same symbols on them, etc. and when you collect the whole set, it provides stat bonuses for this or that character type. In Rift there are so many character types possible through mixing souls, developers haven't been able to produce an armor set for each class. The armor bonuses that work for one type of mage will mean nothing to another type. Synergy crystals provide a way around this problem. I'm going to quote from the article in the link below to explain.

"In order to avoid this potential problem, Trion found a clever workaround: Rift’s Armor Sets are still defined by your class, but the extra bonuses given for collecting multiple pieces of gear in that Set aren’t on the items themselves. Instead, those meta-bonuses will be applied through a new, compeltely separate item that will show up in the Character pane when 1.3 launches. They’re called a Synergy Crystals, and each one (there will be 32 different ones at patch launch) gives bonuses to different stats–but only once you’ve collected enough pieces of your Armor Set. Alone, the Crystal doesn’t do anything, but with each Set Item that is equipped, it provides more and more stat bonuses.

For example, a Warrior Riftblade will want to get a Crystal that gives bonuses to Crit, Hit, and Damage, while a Warrior Warlord will be searching for one that enhances his Health and Armor. They’ll both be rolling on the same Plate armor pieces to collect the same Armor Set when they drop from the new Hammerknell content, but the two players will be using them to activate and empower their own, distinct Synergy Crystals–getting completely different bonuses out of the Armor Set. There’s a Snyergy Crystal for each Soul in the game, so there should be at least one good option for every single combination of Souls.

UPDATE: To help clarify, we asked Krausnick if we’ll be able to swap out Synergy Crystals and he confirmed: 'Synergy Crystals work like any other item in the game, too, meaning players can switch them out to get different benefits if they wish. That way, when a Warrior changes from his DPS Role to his Tank Role, he can change the bonus his set gives.'

Naturally, more Armor Sets and Synergy Crystals will be added with future updates, expanding on the foundation laid in tomorrow’s patch. In the meantime, having only four sets (and 32 Crystals) should make things much easier to start, while still letting players enhance their highly-customized characters."

So where do you get synergy crystals? No one knows yet, but the new armor sets come from the new Hammerknell content.

Since there are 36 souls if you count all the PvP ones, apparently there aren't any synergy crystals for PvP yet.

To take screenshots using a Windows7 machine, use Print Screen. You may have to hold down the control key while pushing Print Screen. A lot depends on your keyboard brand.

Rift: World Event Email and Vendors UPDATED

The Solo MMO Player has just received his email from Trion with the goodie bag that is distributed to players due to the world event problems. Unfortunately, he can't turn in his otherworldly sourcestones as the world event vendors have disappeared.

All that are left are a cluster of 10 or so players standing staring at the place where the vendors used to be.

Classic.

UPDATE : The Solo MMO Player found a Defiant World Event Vendor on April 30 - Go into Manufactory crafting area, take the ramp up on the left. Go through the door immediately on the left which takes you to the College of Planar Studies. The vendor Boularna is standing right in front of you.

Rift: Nailing Those Bags Down

If you are having trouble with your bags floating all over your screen, Detill5869 explains how to lock them into position. Basically, open the Settings Tab and then hit Edit Layout. Move your bags to where you want them to be, then save the layout. When you return to the game the bags seem to stay put. (However, it looks as if the bags start floating again if you log out of the character.) Many thanks to Detill5869 for telling us how to fix this minor irritation.

Looks like the mobile authenticator is now available for iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches. Here is what you do after you download the free app from iTunes.

Please note that the random number generated by the iPhone or iPod Touch (or Android phone) changes rapidly. You only have a short amount of time to type in the letters/numbers before it changes to something else, which can be rough on folks with physical impairments.

Rift: Developers Working to Fix Corrupted Souls

Rift Junkies reports that Trion is trying to fix the drop rate of corrupted souls. It may be that there is a problem with the content that doesn't allow players to get to where these drop. I'm not sure about that but if you've noticed a problem, here is what the developers say.
