Solo Runs Through Various Instances

I turned up quite a few solo run strategy articles this morning. First is Pike the Hunter's attempt to solo Attumen, the first boss in Karazhan, so she could get the Worgen Claw Necklace. She hasn't gotten through the instance yet, but she has tried some things and has other ideas outlined here.
http://www.aspectofthehare.net/2009/07/solo-artist.html

WOW Alone has gotten through Blood Furnace (Burning Crusade) by himself as a Level 80. I haven't found a mention of what character he used for this but his main character is a hunter.
http://wowalone.blogspot.com/2009/07/solo-ing-blood-furnace.html

And he has heard from Celebrandil who has given the steps to soloing Zulgurub and recommends using a gorilla as a pet, which means Celebrandil must be a hunter.
http://wowalone.blogspot.com/2009/07/celebrandils-tips-on-solo-ing-zulgurub.html

Rummaging through WOW Alone's blog, I see two more instances he's run by himself and documented--Scholomance (as a Level 80 hunter) and
http://wowalone.blogspot.com/search/label/solo%20dungeons

Hellfire Ramparts (also as a Level 80 hunter).

GuildWatch Back on Wednesday

Hey! The Guildwatch column is live earlier than normal. Hurrah!
http://www.wow.com/2009/07/29/guildwatch-just-dont-say-priceless/

We have the normal thefts, the normal loot distribution that went awry, the guilds that break up and reform so often they are a laughing stock, the normal name-calling, the usual problems when a guild officer and his girlfriend in the same guild break up, but this week we also have Monardy who went on a PuG run and paid 1000 gold for a friend to go along also. Mondardy picked up some loot but his friend didn't and Mondardy is unhappy. I thought it was pay for play, not pay for loot. Isn't that what the Auction House is for?

As usual, here is downing of instances and recruiting to guilds but not on the Solo MMO Player's server.

Power Auras Addon Review

No Stock UI looks at how Power Auras Classic works in raids to make a player more aware of all that is happening around him/her. Basically you program the auras you want to track and specify visual cues for each. You'll see lots of examples of how this works with the writer's restoration and elemental shaman characters.

Note that there are a lot of links to Power Auras here. Use the search box at the top left hand corner to find all the blog entries on this topic.

Guildwatch Wednesday is Now on Thursdays

Mike Schramm's Guildwatch column comes out late Wednesday night now, so I am officially christening this Guildwatch Thursday since I like to go to bed at my regular time instead of staying up staring at Wow.com waiting for the drama to drop.
http://www.wow.com/2009/07/22/guildwatch-they-should-ninja-a-dictionary/

This week's excitement revolves around the creative justifications people give for cheating in the game--weasel words galore!--
http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=17367886307&sid=1

and the fact that ninjas can't spell or use punctuation. Do you think it's genetic?
http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=18031369247&sid=1&pageNo=1

Finally, Tough Chicklets on Baelgun has pissed off Integrity over loot that dropped in a PUG. The full (?) story here along with someone making fun of gear choices a Tough Chicklet made.
http://integritybaelgun.guildomatic.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=175

I am not sure how this got into the Achievements section but let me quote the Guildwatch column, "Special Circumstances of Baelgun ditched their usual weekly raid to rock the Midsummer Fire Festival. Oh, and since they were there, they decided to kill any and all Alliance they came across: by the time they had desecrated all of the flames, half of the Eastern Kingdom had been covered with innkeeper and questgiver blood. Good times?"

Baelgun obviously has been more active than usual this week.

By the way, if you don't understand how guilds full of good folks can dissolve, read this.

Headsets for Raiding

I've been researching headsets for Macs. Here are two which are highly rated. Note that Macs need an adapter to use a headset microphone in many cases. This website explains how to set up a Mac client for Ventrilo. Ventrilo (also called Vent) is one of the two most used programs that allow in-raid chat. Teamspeak is the other. Note that your guild's server may need tweeking of its Ventrilo codec.

The horde guild Fail is recruiting via a song. With banjo music. "Looking for the best [musical] players in the world...."

This week there are lots of temper tantrums over bad loot rolls, guild officers who lose their mind over a bit of insubordination, and of course guild officers claiming loot someone else won in the raid. Guilds are dissolving, reassembling and then vanishing again at record speed. Good times for the soap opera fan!

Guildwatch Wednesday--A Photo's Worth 1,000 Words

I grabbed this photo from Mike's column as it pretty much speaks for itself.

http://www.wow.com/2009/07/08/guildwatch-dodge-this/

This week's Guildwatch is full of guilds using exploits to cheat their way through instances and getting caught. Fortunately Joelol has enlivened the drama this week by stealing his guild's bank contents. His brother turns up on the guild's forum later on, apologizes and states that Joelol will have to find someone else to pay his monthly fee. Piss off your guildmates, steal everything that's not nailed down, but don't aggravate the big brother who pays for your WOW time!

I can't summarize this story any better than Mike Schramm, the regular Guild Watch columnist does here, "This recruiting thread for Grief on Whisperwind devolves super fast, especially when accusations of previous ninja'ing on OS25 shows up. But Janefonda takes it to a Jerry Springer level when she starts talking about her "boob card." Also, points to Aybebe for trying to play off his nonsense as "roleplay[ing] a bad guy on the server." Especially since a) it's not a roleplaying server, and b) ninja'ing gear is grounds for a suspension, not roleplay material, buddy."

There's lots more recruiting and instance-downing (minus using exploits to do so) but naturally none on the Solo MMO Player's server.

Warlocks in WOW (with PAWN tag scales)

Besides the Warlocks Den* (listed on the right side of the page under Favorite Links) there are several guides to the warlock that look pretty thorough. Ten Ton Hammer updated their guide in January of 2009. Besides gear, talents and spells, it includes information about soloing with the warlock through various levels.
http://www.tentonhammer.com/wow/guides/classes/warlock

apbit hosts a warlock guide that seems pretty thorough and which includes a leveling guide and a list of known bugs (always useful). This information doesn't seem to have been updated since the original game came out. There's no leveling information for Outlands, for information. Depend on it at your own risk.
http://apbit.com/classguides/warlock/thewarlockguide.html

I found a site devoted to warlock builds that is updated to Patch 3.1. Definitely post-Ulduar!
http://warlockbuilds.com/

There is a wiki just for warlocks. The link below is to their section on green fire, which is an addon that turns the warlock's flames green. I'm holding out for an addon that allows my warlock to shoot pink rhinestones, but this is pretty cool nevertheless. The wiki has a lot of other good information like guides to raiding or PvP play as a warlock, as well as a list of macros for warlocks. This is a good site to explore. Look at Game Mechanics for a DPS calculator and a list of spell coefficients. I've added this wiki to the list of Favorite Sites on the right side of this page.
http://warlock.wikispaces.com/Green+Fire

Finally, from WOW Head's Class Forums for Warlocks, I found PAWN tag scales for those using PAWN to evaluate gear.

*The Solo MMO Player says the Warlocks Den site doesn't seem to have been updated in a while. Use at your own risk.

Guildwatch Wednesday Features Loot Auction --and Pussikat

So you are on a PUG raid and all of a sudden the raid leader starts auctioning off access to the loot....

This and other creative ways to cause angst and frenzy are in yesterday's Guildwatch, including a death knight named Pussikat who is supposed to have insulted guild members and posted a porn link somewhere (on the guild's website) and got reported to the police for harrassment. Details are unclear and/or lacking but somehow I don't want to know.

Let me quote Mike the Guildwatch columnist on this one: "Puzzler for the Day: Banefire over on Icecrown is an Alliance guild. So riddle me this, Batman, asks our tipster: why does their Thorim kill pic have Horde totems in it? What exactly are we missing there? (Edit: they changed it. We figured they would.)" Certainly not too many people on the Solo MMO Player's realm like to read but this might be noticed by visitors, don't you think?
http://www.wow.com/2009/07/01/guildwatch-paydirt-in-the-drama-mine/

Otherwise there is a lot of downing instances and recruiting but nothing on the Solo MMO Player's realm.
